Trouble is brewing in the SLFP over a shifting of the venue for its 72nd anniversary convention from Hettipola to Colombo.

General secretary of the party Dayasiri Jayasekara has strongly objected to the decision reportedly taken at the request of its MPs who are in the government with ministerial portfolios.

The 02 September event now takes place at Monarch Imperial Hotel in Sri Jayewardenepura.

Jayasekara said a committee headed by Shan Wijayalal de Silva to organize the event at Hettipola has had two meetings chaired by party chief Maithripala Sirisena.

Even invitations have been sent, he said, expressing surprise over the sudden change of the venue.

Jayasekara said the SLFP should first decide if it was in the opposition or the government, and alleged it has become a party without a policy.

He added that he was still undecided whether to attend the conference.
