Singer Umara Sinhawansa has been asked to be present at the Public Administration Ministry tomorrow (03) to be

questioned with regard to her version of the national anthem that she sang at the inaugural ceremony of LPL 2023.

A programme manager at Sri Lanka Cricket gave a statement today to a team of ministry investigators, a ministry official told ‘Lankadeepa.’

Also summoned tomorrow is a deputy director (music division) of the Education Ministry to obtain opinion on the manner in which Sinhawansa sang the national anthem.

Public administration ministry’s additional secretary (investigation) Dhammika Muthugala is leading the investigation that followed an order by premier Dinesh Gunawardena as the subject minister.

The CID is making investigations separately.

Meanwhile, civil society activist Dr. Mahesh Hapugoda called for paying attention to the comments on social media that insult the singer over her Indonesian ancestry.
