President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday (30) his government is committed to building a digitalized modern Sri Lanka.

He was speaking at the launch of ‘Digiecon 2030’ at Temple Trees.

The President said digitalizing the public sector and speeding up digitalization are the responsibility of the government, and a cabinet committee will be appointed for that purpose.

He said that 100 million rupees will be allocated this year to start planning the digital policy by integrating universities and other research institutes.

The next year will see one billion rupees allocated for conducting research focusing on artificial intelligence, said the president.

A concept of president Wickremesinghe, it is a programme organized by the Ministry of Technology towards a digital economy.

‘Digiecon 2030’ will set up a platform for 50 or more innovative, small and medium start-ups in various fields to access global investments and markets.
