The Supreme Court has ordered the attorney general to submit the document by former President Maithripala Sirisena to pardon to Jude Shramantha Jayamaha, who had been sentenced to death over the Royal Park murder.

A bench comprising S. Turairaja, Yasantha Kodagoda and Janak de Silva was taking up a fundamental rights petition filed by the Women and Media Collective yesterday (30).

The petitioner is seeking the annulment of the presidential pardon granted to Jayamaha in 2019.

The petition will be taken up for further argument on June 09.

Jayamaha was sentenced to death for the murder of Yvonne Jonsson, 19, in July 2005.
