Senior lawyer Kaushalya Navaratne assumed duties yesterday (25) as the 27th president of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
Upon assuming duties, he assured that both he and the BASL will continue to work independently, free from any and all political biases.
“Any interference to the judiciary would have zero tolerance,” he said.
Navaratne’s induction took place at the 49th convocation of the BASL, held at the BMICH in Colombo.
Incumbent secretary Isuru Balapatabendige was re-elected unanimously.
Chief justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, attorney general Sanjaya Rajaratnam and BASL’s immediate past president Saliya Pieris were also present at the event.
The CJ presented Pieris with a memento in recognition of his services to the legal profession.
