Ranil Wickremesinghe had told his close associates that he did not receive votes from the SLPP as much as he had expected at the presidential polls.
At a meeting at his Flower Road political office, Wickremesinghe remarked that they had chosen Anura Kumara Dissanayake instead.
It seems the people have not accompanied the SLPP politicians who had come to lend me support, he said.
Wickremesinghe noted that they should focus now the general election.
He agreed with the common desire that they should contest under the UNP’s ‘elephant’ symbol.
He added that at least four newcomers should be in the nomination lists at district level.
