Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Namal Rajapaksa has pledged to fulfil the responsibility given him.
After his candidacy was announced at the party headquarters today (07), he said he had no plan to contest, but accepted the party’s request at the challenging moment.
Referring to Dhammika Perera’s decision not to contest, Rajapaksa said his responsibility was to prepare a suitable candidate, but that no one can be forced to contest.
Speaking further, he said the SLPP would be the leading force at the election.
Confident of victory, he said his victory would be the victory of the party and the country.
Rajapaksa invited those who deserted the party to align with president Ranil Wickremesinghe to forget differences and return.
