The former opposition leader of the Maharagama urban council has joined the United Republican Party led by Patali Champika Ranawaka.
Rahula Perera, accompanied by several of his followers from the SJB, met Ranawaka and extended their support to him when the latter’s party held a public meeting yesterday (11).
Perera too, addressed the gathering.
Need for new political movement
In his speech, MP Ranawaka said the country needed a new political movement to solve its woes.
The party has a foremost objective in punishing the set of racketeers, who sent the country into bankruptcy, for which a new hope especially for the youths is needed, he said.
The URP will fill that gap with a strong and new ideology, said Ranawaka.
