A presidential election will be held by June next year, said the UNP’s Colombo district leader Ravi Karunanayake.

He was addressing a party meeting in Modera on 29 July.

According to him, an extensive alliance, including the UNP, will be formed to contest the presidential election.

The party will field an independent candidate, said Karunanayake.

Former SJB strongman P. Harrison and ministers Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara also addressed the meeting.
