The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) has decided against supporting a House resolution for the removal of Janaka Ratnayake as chairman of the Public Utilities Commission (PUCSL).

The parliament will debate and vote on the proposal on May 24.

SLFP general secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara said that the day would separate the lovers and haters of the people among the MPs.

He asked SLPP MPs if they would favour the resolution that wants the PUCSL chief removed for acting against burdening the people.

The SJB and the two SLPP breakaway factions have decided to vote against the proposal.

Meanwhile, the chief government whip has instructed all SLPP MPs in writing to attend House sittings on May 24.

The instruction comes in the wake of reports that 10 seniors are going to boycott sittings in a mark of protests against the president over their not getting cabinet positions.
