Three of the country's leading independent trade unionists are represented at the Asia-Pacific Labor Conference in Bangkok, Thailand.

A study on the code of health and safety in the workplace presented by the International Labor Organization [ILO] will be held on May 18–19 with the participation of about fifty trade union representatives from the Asia Pacific region.

Three activists from their Sri Lankan representative unions have joined the labour conference for the first time, organized by IndustriAll Global Union.

Ishankha Sinhaarachchi is an Executive Committee Member of the Ceylon Trade, Industry, and General Workers Union (CMU) and also a freelance journalist. Darshika Galtaralekam is an Executive Member of the Free Trade Zones and General Employees Union (FTZ & GSEU), and Project Coordinator of the National Union of Metal and Migrant Workers of Sri Lanka (NUMMSL) while Riyana Feiroz has been working as a trade union activist since 2009.
