The first hearing took place yesterday (09) of a lawsuit filed before a Singaporean court seeking compensation for the environmental damage caused by the X-Press Pearl maritime disaster.
Proceedings of the case have been postponed until May 15, justice minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe has told BBC Sinhala Service.
The government seeks a compensation of 6.2 billion US dollars in lieu of the damage caused after the Singapore-flagged chemical carrier caught fire in Sri Lankan waters on May 20 2021 and sank.
