SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa was absent at yesterday’s (28) vote on the resolution on the IMF’s extended fund facility.
When party backbenchers asked him the reason for his absence, he has replied that his conscience did not permit him to vote in support of the resolution.
The resolution was passed with a 95-vote majority, with 120 voting ‘yes’ and 25 voting ‘no.’
SLPP MPs in the government, along with independents Duminda Dissanayake, Anura Yapa, John Seneviratne and Sudarshani Fernandopulle and SJB’s A.H.M. Fowzie supported it.
The NPP, FPC and SLC MPs opposed it, while the SJB, SLFP, TNA and independent MP Patali Champika Ranawaka abstained.
