Foreign affairs minister Ali Sabry is in disagreement with certain clauses in the anti-terrorism draft bill.

Everyone in the government is of the view that the draft bill needs to be amended, he said.

Citing an example, he said that empowering a DIG to issue a detention order was dangerous, and that that power should be given to the defence secretary at least.

Sabry also said the proposed laws will be enforced during terrorist threats only, and will not be part of the normal law of the country.

He added the SLPP has asked the president to review it again through a committee of academics and introduce it as one that is not against democracy.
