Teacher trade unionist Joseph Stalin charges the government is turning a blind eye to revive education from several years of its downfall.

Instead, it is bragging about obtaining a loan from the IMF, he said in a statement.

School education has been severely affected due to a shortage of more than 30,000 teachers, while students are yet to receive their textbooks and uniforms for the current year, he said.

A nutritional programme to address malnourishment is failing the schoolchildren too, he said.

All these matters were brought to the attention of the subject minister on March 31, Stalin said, adding that these issues need to be addressed before schools reopen on April 17.
