The SLPP has reminded Ranil Wickremesinghe that it was the party’s national organizer Basil Rajapaksa who had named him as the country’s president.
Speaking to the media yesterday (22) at the party headquarters, state minister Indika Anuruddha said Rajapaksa was instrumental in leading SLPP MPs within parliament to get Wickremesinghe appointed to the position.
With a majority finding Dullas Alahapperuma unsuitable to be the president, the SLPP decided to vote against him, said Anuruddha.
The state minister’s remarks come as the SLPP remains worried by the president’s reluctance to appoint party seniors as cabinet ministers.
