Mahinda Deshapriya is very likely to be back in the Election Commission which he headed previously, according to political sources.
Presently chairman of the Delimitation Commission, he has applied for membership of the Election Commission.
Applications for membership of independent commissions closed on February 15.
Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said the appointments will be made shortly.
Meanwhile, the national committee on the delimitation of local government areas has asked the subject minister to extend its term by one month.
