The government’s various attempts to postpone the local government polls may result in a people’s struggle similar to the one that expelled Gotabaya Rajapaksa from presidency, warned 43 Brigade leader Patali Champika Ranawaka.

Its use of the finance secretary and the government printer to block funding for the election is leading to a very dangerous situation, he said.

Speaking to the media yesterday (15), MP Ranawaka said attempts to put off the LG polls is dealing a death blow to people’s supremacy,

Holding elections to ensure lasting economic stability is needed for economic growth, he stressed.

He noted that elections were held even during the war, the tsunami disaster and the coronavirus epidemic.

The country had taken to the path of violence whenever the executive prevented elections, he said.
