A tense situation occurred during a protest by Buddhist monks near the entrance to the parliamentary complex today (08).

Protesting against a presidential decision to fully implement the 13th amendment to the constitution, they tried to make their way via Polduwa Junction when tensions flared.

A group called Urban Citizens provided drinking water bottles and other facilities to the protesting monks.

In his policy statement delivered to the House today, president Ranil Wickremesinghe reiterated that there will be no division of the country.
