TNA MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam has urged China to cooperate with Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring process.

A 'ChinaGoHome' movement is unavoidable if that does not happen, he said, adding that he would give leadership to that campaign.

Rasamanickam expressed concern over the Chinese Embassy’s criticism of him through twitter and said it amounted to a breach of his parliamentary privilege to speak on behalf of the Sri Lankans.

“If China truly wishes to stand with the people of Sri Lanka during difficult times, they should cooperate with the debt restructuring process. As I understand, the entire IMF negotiations are at a standstill due to this,” the MP said.

With a USD 20 trillion economy, China could very easily write off its dues of USD 7.4 billion from Sri Lanka and be a partner to the economy of 22 million people, he added.
