UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has said it is "completely unacceptable" that people were having their lives disrupted by a "selfish minority" who join illegal protests, pledging to give powers to the police to clamp down such protests, the BBC reported.

"My view is that those who break the law should feel the full force of it," Prime Minister Sunak said, adding that the police would have his full support in acting decisively to end "the misery and disruption" caused to ordinary families.

Responding to Prime Minister Sunak's statement on Twitter, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles recalled his statement in parliament recently where he pointed out that "there is a way, a law and a system for protesting," reiterating that protests meant to disrupt public life and economy wouldn’t be tolerated.

"We will also never work outside of that developed and civilized European experience. It's not our policy to suppress any legitimate protest. We are only working towards preventing the disruption caused to the lives of ordinary citizens by the activities of a selfish minority," he said.

During a meeting with UN Resident Representative Hanna Singer-Hamdy recently, Alles had observed that she was quite pleased with the way law enforcement authorities had controlled the recent Opposition protests.
