An additional secretary in the Health Ministry is reportedly attempting to award a tender to the highest bidder for the purchase of oxygen generator plants (oxygen concentrator plants).

The association of health professionals charged the official was trying to show a nonexistent quality for the machines even to the World Health Organisation.

The maximum purity level of these machines is 93 percent with a two pc adaptability, but this official has demanded a technically-misleading 95 pc purity level, charged the association.

With seven of the machines to be purchased through the Asian Development Fund and another two through the Global Fund, the ministry will have to incur a loss of Rs. 800 million.

Since the government has decided to pay the VAT, it stands to lose Rs. 350 million if the highest bidder is chosen, charged the association.
