A basic blood test has been suspended at the country’s leading state hospital for women, the Castle Street Hospital in Borella, for want of reactants.

Director of the hospital Dr. Ajith Danthanarayana informed officials in writing on November 14 that full blood count (FBC) tests cannot be conducted temporarily.

It came on the same day president Ranil Wickremesinghe presented the government’s budget for 2023, which proposed to allocate Rs. 322 billion for health while setting aside Rs. 410 billion for defence.
