US assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu has appreciated president Ranil Wickremesinghe’s efforts in rebuilding Sri Lanka’s economy.
Lu, who is on an official visit here, met with the president and assured to support Sri Lanka during this difficult period.
He asserted that president Wickremesinghe is the right person to get the country out of the present crisis and assured him that he has a force backing him.
Lu also said the US government would continue to assist Sri Lanka with their negotiations with the IMF and the debt restructuring talks.
He welcomed the efforts with regard to reconciliation and strengthening of democratic institutions.
During the discussion president Wickremesinghe expressed his appreciation to the US government for their continuous support towards Sri Lanka.
US ambassador Julie Chung was also present at the discussion.
