Leader of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya Anura Kumara Dissanayake has issued a stern warning to president Ranil Wickremesinghe for attempting to repress people’s uprisings in a barbaric manner.

Wickremesinghe will have to find places to hide when hundreds of thousands of people encircle the city of Colombo, he said near the Maradana police station after a protest by the Social Youth Union was dispersed and 83 of its members were arrested.

“Five people have been hospitalized with injuries. We will rally the people against these anti-democratic actions by Ranil-Rajapaksa.”

“we are telling Ranil and others who wage these beastly attacks to please find places to hide from the people. If they think they can control reasonable uprisings by the hands of the police and their juntas of thugs, that will be for a very short time only,” Dissanayake said.

He asked as to why a protest could not be held in a country where people are venting their feelings due to suffering from hunger, injustice and unemployment.

One person is in critical condition after the police baton-charged and attacked with water cannons and teargas on the protestors.

“Let’s see who will win” – Harini

Jathika Jana Balawegaya MP Dr. Harini Amarasuriya charged that a president without any public mandate to rule the country is battling against the citizenry.

“Let’s see who will win. He will never win. Twenty-one million people are opposed to him,” she said after visiting the arrestees under police custody.
