Former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is likely to be sworn-in as the new Prime Minister, highly placed sources at the Presidential Secretariat said.

The sources said that the new Prime Minister will be sworn-in on Friday (13).

A discussion between President Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe took place today evening at the Presidential Secretariat.

Furthermore, the request made by former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to allow the peaceful protests to continue without any obstructions was received positively.

Meanwhile, it is reported that a group of SJB MPs including Harin Fernando has agreed to support Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Fernando said on social media that he has decided to function as an independent MP.

“This country needs a Government soon. We can’t delay this. If the SJB is delaying this I have decided to be independent and support a process to form a Government,” the senior SJB MP told NewsWire.
