SLPP Parliamentarian Mahinda Samarasinghe has decided to step down as a member of the Parliament in order to takeover the position of Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the United States of America and Mexico.
It is reported that the President has requested Mahinda Samarasinghe to become Sri Lanka's top diplomat to the U.S following the retirement of Ambassador Ravinatha P. Aryasinha.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the island today (18) to attend the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
