The National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Basil Rajapaksa has left for the United States today (12).

The Head of the Presidential Task Force established to direct, coordinate and monitor the delivery of continuous services for the sustenance of overall community life amid the pandemic has left for the U.S. to seek medical treatment, a close associate of Basil Rajapaksa said.

Although a meeting of the leaders of the ruling Sri Lanka People’s Freedom Alliance led by the SLPP was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (11), it was noteworthy that Basil Rajapaksa had refrained from informing anyone about his impending departure to the U.S.

Party Leader's Meeting

A party leaders' meeting of the ruling coalition was held to discuss measures that need to be taken to control the Covid-19 pandemic.

Discussions also focused on the current steps taken by the government to control the rapid spread of the coronavirus and the construction of additional treatment centers for Covid patients.

The Premier has stressed the importance of continuing the islandwide inoculation drive.

Furthermore, the party leaders have commended the national programme of making 10,000 beds in 10 days which are to be handed over to facilities treating Covid patients. This programme is spearheaded by the SLPP youth wing.

Athuraliye Rathana Thero and Ven. Galagama Dhamma Ransi Thero took part in the discussions.
