The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) hasn't permitted Wanni District Parliamentarian and Leader of All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC), Rishad Bathiudeen, who is being detained and questioned by the CID under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) to attend Parliament on Tuesday (04).

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena on April 30 had agreed to allow the opposition lawmaker to attend sittings of Parliament.

Accordingly, the Serjeant-at-Arms of Parliament Narendra Fernando had informed the Director of the CID in writing to take necessary steps for Rishad Bathiudeen to attend the Parliament sittings if he requests.

As Parliament was scheduled to sit on 4th and 5th of May, Bathiudeen was expected to attend Parliament today (04) and deliver an address.

However, the CID had not complied with the Speaker's request citing Covid-19 related concerns.

MP Bathiudeen had been subjected to a PCR test after the CID had informed that the wife of one of the cadres had tested positive for Covid-19.

However, the result of the PCR test has not been revealed yet.
