SLPP MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe PC said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in a phone call on Friday (16) morning, had berated him in a demeaning and threatening manner.

He made this revelation at a special media briefing held at his residence today.

When the President had phoned Wijeydasa Rajapakshe in the morning, he thought it was to discuss the issues raised at the press briefing conducted at the Abayaramaya yesterday (15) and as such, he was expecting to have a cordial conversation with him.

"Instead, he spoke to me in a very demeaning manner that is not appropriate for the Head of State. Therefore, I too had to respond in similar language,” Rajapakshe said.

He stressed that if the President of the country is behaving in such a way, he is afraid for his own life as well as the lives of his family members, adding that he has already informed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) about the incident.

At a press conference held at the Abayaramaya yesterday regarding the Colombo Port City Economic Commission Bill, he launched a scathing attack on both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and SLPP strategist Basil Rajapaksa.

Meanwhile, President Rajapaksa had lambasted Wijeydasa Rajapakshe for his remarks during a phone call with the Chief Incumbent of the Abayaramaya temple, Ven. Muruththettuwe Ananda Thero yesterday evening (15).
