Health Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, who is currently being treated at the IDH Hospital for Covid-19, has rejected the allegations levelled against her on social media.

News reports on social media alleged that the Health Minister had gone back to her home along with nurses and a ventilator claiming that the hospital facilities were inadequate.

"The Minister of Health is currently recovering and is receiving treatment under the full supervision of the medical staff of the IDH Hospital," the Media Secretary to the Minister Viraj Abeysinghe said in a statement today.

He also said that necessary arrangements have already been made to take legal action against those who have published malicious and misleading news about the Health Minister on various websites and social media platforms.

The statement further said that,

"Since the onset of the Covid pandemic, the Minister of Health has endeavoured to strengthen the health sector and its efforts to combat the coronavirus, despite the risks posed to her life.
While she has committed herself to saving the people of this country from this virus, she too has contracted the virus now. At a time when she is receiving treatment for Covid-19, the public will denounce these malicious attempts to tarnish her image by concocting fake news on social media," Abeysinghe stressed.
