Minister of Power Dullas Alahapperuma has requested the Head of the Presidential Task Force for National Deployment and Vaccination Plan for COVID-19 to give priority to the inoculation of teachers and students who are sitting for the Oridnary Level Examination this year.

The former Education Minister said he has requested Senior Presidential Advisor and the Head of the Presidential Task Force Lalith Weeratunga in this regard.

Minister Alahapperuma said this at the inauguration of a rural power plant in Kamburupitiya, Matara yesterday.

Sri Lanka officially commenced its Covid-19 vaccination programme on Friday (29).

While noting that Sri Lanka has been ranked 10th in an Anti-Covid Performance Index of almost 100 countries compiled by an Australian think tank, he stressed that the President must be praised for the way the pandemic was handled in the country.

"Currently, there are 4.2 million students in the country. As the former Minister of Education, I am well aware of their worth. That is why I requested Presidential Advisor Lalith Weeratunga to give priority to the education system as well.

It is vital to give the vaccine to the health sector first. Also, it's important that the government gives priority to the Armed Forces, Police and employees at power stations.

Furthermore, we also need to be mindful of all the teachers who educate our children," Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Speaking further, Minister Alahapperuma said that,

"The President should have the honour of Sri Lanka been ranked 10th in the list of countries that have handled the coronavirus pandemic more effectively in the world." - Power Minister Dallas Alahapperuma

"The Covid-19 pandemic has taken over the world. Today, Sri Lanka is among the top 10 countries in the world that has effectively handled the Covid-19 pandemic. The President should be praised for leading the efforts.

It is due to his visionary leadership that the healthcare system in the country has been able to reach such a level. Therefore, we are truly grateful to the President devoid of any insincerity, ”he added.
