The audio of a heated argument between SLPP national organizer Basil Rajapaksa and former Moratuwa mayor Saman Lal Fernando presently in circulation in social media is said to be a plant by the party.
It is claimed the incident occurred at a meeting at the party headquarters at Nelum Mawatha Yesterday (23) to discuss election and May Day preparations.
Rajapaksa has severely reprimanded the ex-mayor over arson attacks and damage caused to public property during the anti-government protests last year.
However, political sources claim the SLPP office had released the audio on the advice of its national organizer Rajapaksa.
He is planning to renounce his US citizenship and enter parliament once again, party sources said.
