Short-film director Lanka Bandaranayake has had her first feature film, The Hail, selected to a fully-funded project development programme at Global Media Makers in Los Angeles, USA.

Taking to facebook, she said,

“The very first step towards my first feature film...!

My first feature film, The Hail, has been selected to fully funded project development program at Global Media Makers in Los Angeles, USA. I will be having this great opportunity to develop the project with the masters of Hollywood cinema during the program.

I will be having this great opportunity to develop the project with the masters of Hollywood cinema during the program.

Sanjeewa Pushpakumara is the first person to thank for this opportunity for my participation in this residential film development program. One of his movies, "Amma" received the same scholarship in 2019. After that, he had an opportunity to nominate Sri Lankan filmmakers, and my film has been selected from among the three young filmmakers nominated from Sri Lanka.

With the current political situation in Sri Lanka, there is no hope for us, Sri Lankan filmmakers, to make our movies in the country but we have no other option but to collide with Sri Lankan cinema itself.”
